Leslie with her daughter and father in front of bookshelves

With my daughter and my father in his library in 2012. My father’s love of books sparked my passion for writing and editing.

I live in New York City with my husband, daughter, and our dog, Albert, who can’t understand why I’m banging away at a laptop when I could be curled up napping with him. When I’m not editing or writing, I'm walking him in Central Park, taking ballet class, or spending time with my pre-teen for as long as she lets me. I drink too much coffee, sleep too few hours, and have enough fresh paperbacks on my nightstand to last me over a year. I began writing freelance essays and articles in 2013, and have been published at The New York Times, The Washington Post, Salon, SELF, Longreads, The Los Angeles Review of Books, and The Atlantic, among others.

Who Are My Clients?

I specialize in memoir and personal essay. Every writer needs an editor who is trustworthy, empathetic, and laser-focused. I work very closely with my clients, making sure I have a clear idea of their vision and the type of publication they are aiming for. I have edited personal essays that have been subsequently placed at The New York Times, The Washington Post, Salon, Longreads, and others. I have also worked with professors in the fields of science and anthropology, helping them transform obscure technical writing into accessible op-eds for a general audience that quickly landed at The Long Angeles Times, The Philadelphia Inquirer, and The Hill. I also work with short story writers, novelists, and authors assembling book proposals. I’ve edited and ghost-written opinion pieces, memoirs, and even speeches for wedding officiants!

What is my Background?

I grew up in Los Angeles, where I studied at Lichine Ballet Academy and became a child actor at the age of ten, working in television, film, commercials, and on stage. I played the title role in The Los Angeles Chamber Ballet’s production of “The Little Prince.” This experience ended up forming the basis of my approach to storytelling. Working with choreographers from The Royal Ballet and The Paris Opera Ballet, I learned the art of bringing characters and narrative to life. I also worked in television, film, and commercials. I received my undergraduate degree in English Literature from Columbia University, and studied at The Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre. I’ve written culture pieces on literature and the arts for such sites as The Los Angeles Review of Books, The Huffington Post, Off the Shelf, The Rumpus, and The Lit Pub.
